A downloadable Blender Project

Another quick project that I worked on.  I followed the channel, Default Cube to get an understanding of how rigid bodies work in Blender and how I can get an array of objects to fit a curve.

One problem of fitting to a curve was the distortion of individual meshes when going around sharp bends. I was able to fix this by using a separate plane that I parented the domino to. I was then able to create an instance of the domino for each plane which ignored the distortion of the curve.

I also experienced some issues with the setup falling apart at certain points for no reason. Playing around with the Rigid Body Settings helped fix the issue.

To make the objects look more like dominoes, I decided to create a material that would create the physical dots that are iconic to domino blocks. To make it easier to arrange in the scene, I used the random value of each object to try and randomly distribute the number values on each domino. I managed to create a material but it still has some issues to sort out. In the dice example, all the faces start off as individual objects so that they all have a random value assigned to them, they are then parented to an empty for ease of movement.

Check out the node tree setup to see how it all works and see if you can improve upon it.

If I go back to this problem again, I might experiment with Booleans to cut out the dots like a sort-of stamp, or even try baking out the masks for each number of dots and using that in displacement modifier/node tree setup.

The blend file contains the settings and setup I used as well as the material with the node setup.
